Letter Of Appeal
Millions of people around the world are setting up funds to help the victims of Beslan. Julia and Lev Atlas, originally from Rostov-on-Don, Glasgow's twin city, which is located in the same area of Southern Russia as Beslan. During the news coverage it was broadcast that some of the most critically injured children were taken to the Regional Children's Hospital in Rostov-on-Don, which is the biggest city in the region. On Tuesday 7th September we contacted the Rostov hospital directly to find out what is going on. We have learned the following:
All the critically wounded children arrived unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds. This is a very good hospital, but it is not equipped to deal with so many intensive care patients at the same time. Dr. Feodor Sharshov, chief consultant of the intensive care unit, told us that the situation is absolutely desperate because they do not have enough equipment to deal with all the cases at once. He told us that they desperately need the following equipment:
1. Infusomat® fmS
This equipment is required to maintain life support and is manufactured by Braun Melsungen AG Germany. We contacted a representative of the firm in Rostov-on-Don and were told that if the money is transferred direct to the company's account, the equipment can be delivered to the hospital overnight. Julia is offering to travel to Rostov-on-Don and personally oversee the delivery of the equipment to the hospital. Additionally, we will organise access to the hospital to see the children, speak with the doctors and see the money raised being put to invaluable use.
According to the quote given to us by Braun Melsungen AG £30,000.00 is required. We are encouraging individuals and companies to donate as much or as little as they can and it would be great if this total was surpassed. Any amount that you decide to donate would be greatly appreciated.
Time is running short for these children. If you require further information or have any more questions about us or the appeal please do not hesitate to contact us.
